The best care for houseplants

You want to give your interior a green makeover and you have beautiful houseplants purchased. But how do you keep your plants happy and healthy? We give you a helping hand.

To water
Sounds very easy peasy, but it isn't! Every plant has different needs and therefore needs different care. One plant is more in the shade and the other more in the sun. As a result, the water requirement is also different. Special apps have even been developed that indicate which plant needs how much water.

Do you have plants on the ground floor and top floor of your house? TIP: place a watering can downstairs and above. This way you are reminded that you have to water the plants every now and then and you don't have to lug a watering can upstairs.

Plant nutrition
Is this really necessary? Yes, this is definitely necessary and indispensable in the care of your plants. Your plants will survive without it just fine but with the food they will feel better especially in the growing season. The plant needs extra energy to make new leaves.

It is important that you are at the right times plant food gives. So only during the growing season (approximately from March to October). Read the label carefully and give the correct amount. Too much food is counterproductive.

Humidity
Many plants that we have in the living rooms come from the jungle. They live under the trees and therefore absorb a lot of moisture. In general, the humidity in the house is a lot lower. To make your plants feel happy, you can increase the humidity slightly.

With a plant sprayer you can wet the leaves of your plants. But you can also put them outside during a rain shower, for example. Humidifiers are also top notch. Fill these with water and place them between the plants. In this way it atomizes fine droplets between the plants.

Light
As mentioned above, some plants like sun, partial shade or shade. Keep this in mind. A plant that likes to be in the shade but placed in a sunny spot will quickly become unhappy. This can often be seen in brown and drooping leaves. This also happens the other way around. Plants that like sunlight and that you put in the shade.

TIP: Check in advance which spot you have before you buy a plant. So do you have a place in the shade? Then go and look at plants that love this.

Repotting
You buy a small plant, but it soon grows out of its pot. So repot! Important part in the care. If the pot is too small, the root system will sit against the pot, so that the plant can no longer root further, but also can no longer absorb enough moisture.

There are many ways. It is best to use an indoor pot and a nice decorative pot around it. This allows the moisture to drain if, for example, you have given too much water once. If you alone the decorative pot want to use, you can! Then use hydro granules at the bottom of your jar. This also absorbs the rest of the moisture so that your plant cannot drown.

TIP: Are you an avid caregiver? Then take teracotte pots. These evaporate moisture faster. If you give too much water once, it's not a disaster.

Space
This sounds logical, but some plants need more space as they get bigger. In height but often also in width. If a plant does not have enough space, this will affect its growth.

Plant-check
Also an important part is to check your plants every now and then. Pests such as mourning flies, thrips, louse, etc. are sometimes lurking. If you discover that one of your plants has an infestation, you can quickly deal with it and prevent it from getting worse.
