5 Tips about when your cuttings arrive in your cutting

You probably know your cuttings are finally at your home after a long journey. You give them a decorative pot, you give them a place, you talk to them some love and courage.. And then? Slowly there are doubts about whether your cuttings are going well, because how do you know whether your newly arrived plants are and are happy? We will give you a few tips to help you with this.

1. Know who has moved in with you

All plants are different! That is why it is good to know from which plants your cuttings come. Knowing the country of origin can be very useful, because by imitating the conditions of this country or area as closely as possible, your cutting can feel at home faster and also grow faster!

Example: You have acquired a Scindapsus Pictus cutting. Originally this plant comes from Asia and grows up there in the tropical rainforest along the trees. The rainforest has high humidity, so this plant loves that! A good place would therefore be, for example, in the bathroom near a window, but not directly in front of it, because the Scindapsus Pictus does not like the bright sun.

2. Give them a rest

We know you most likely can't wait to see your cuttings grow. But be patient! Your cuttings have traveled many miles and although they may have been accompanied by a heat pack, they are in shock. Of course we do everything we can to ensure that the travel conditions of your cuttings are as good as possible, but the conditions at your home are probably slightly different. Time to acclimatize!

3. Water? Maybe later..

In order to acclimatize properly, your plant needs a number of things. You may be wondering if you should water the new cuttings. The best way to check this is by feeling and looking at the potting soil. Is the soil wet or damp? Then you don't have to water. Is the ground dry? Then it is best to give filtered water. But watch out! Not too much. Let the water drain for a while before putting the cutting back in the decorative pot.

4. Give them light and warmth

Make sure your cuttings get enough light to grow but not in direct sunlight. The leaves of many plants large and small cannot withstand bright sunlight and will be damaged as a result. Some plants will do fine in shade with little direct light. However, keep in mind that all plants need light to grow, including your cuttings!

The same goes for heat. The stove may be your greatest friend but did not from your cuttings! Do not leave your cuttings above, next to or under a stove. The warm air is too dry and too warm and your cuttings will not appreciate that very much. What makes them happy is a warm space. Therefore, find a place for your cuttings a few meters away from that heater.

5. Grow pots or repot?

Fortunately, the answer to this question is simple and also what you can do best, namely all the way nothing† Cuttings (usually) have very small and fragile roots, so it's best to keep them in the growing pots they came in.
